"The Last Girls," a novel by Lee Smith is an engaging story about former college roommates who have a reunion of sorts. When the girls were in college, they took a boat tour down the Mississippi River, and eventually lose touch after graduating. Decades later, one of the girls, Baby Ballou, dies in a car crash. The women all gather together to take another cruise on the river, and to scatter Baby's ashes.
I really enjoyed this book because I like to peek in on other people's lives and the choices that they make. This novel offered interesting, colorful narratives from several different perspectives. It is also rich in Southern culture.
