"Life on the Outside: The Prison Odyssey of Elaine Bartlett,"
Jennifer Gonnerman
(Non-fiction 920 Bar)
"Life on the Outside" is an account of Elaine Bartlett. She is convicted of a first time, minor drug offense. However, it occurs under the Rockafeller Drug Laws in New York City, and she ends up serving 16 years in prison. The book details her experiences in prison, as well as the lives of her family and 4 children. It also follows her story as she re-enters normal life upon her release. You absolutely cannot read this without being affected. It is wonderfully written and captivating from beginning to end.
